Frozen Fun at Nursery

At nursery, the chilly weather inspired a wonderful hands-on activity that combined science, creativity, and nature exploration. The children had an amazing time experimenting with water, feathers, glitter, and paint to create their own frozen masterpieces!

We poured water into containers, added our creative touches, and placed them outside to freeze overnight. As the children worked, they observed how the materials floated, swirled, and settled, sparking conversations about movement, texture, and color. After we then discover how their creations transformed into solid, icy works of art.

How does this activity support development in our unique Banana Moon Early Learning and Development Programme?

This simple yet exciting activity contributes to multiple areas of learning and development:

•Us: The children explored cause and effect by observing how water freezes and how different materials interact.

•Communication: Through group discussions, they described what they noticed and predicted what might happen, building vocabulary and critical thinking skills.

•Imagination: Adding paint, glitter, and feathers encouraged creativity and imagination.

•Me: Pouring water and handling the materials improved fine motor skills and coordination.
•Challenge: Conversations around floating/sinking, quantity and volume.

Outdoor, hands-on experiences like this are a fantastic way to help children engage with the natural world, spark curiosity, and develop a love for learning through play.
